Monastery of Agios Dionysios in Olympus

It is located like a precious stone near the peaks of Olympus, at a height of 900 meters above sea level, surrounded by a dense forest of firs and deciduous trees. The monastery was founded by Saint Dionysius in 1542 and during its long history gave refuge to the leaders of the uprisings against the Turks and to the partisans during the occupation period 1941 - 1944. The wounds of centuries of struggles are still visible and only recently the restoration of most of the buildings that make up the monastery has accelerated.
